Bigger, Better, BEST

Are you content with where your business currently stands? What if it remained in the same place, with the same resources and no expansion or increase of revenue beyond what you are currently generating? Would you be satisfied, or are you looking to make a big change? Did you know that bigger and better is not always best?

As a leader, you’ll often find yourself evaluating your company and creating new goals. You may find that you’re perfectly comfortable with the direction in which your business is heading, or you may be driven to make bold changes. While both of these viewpoints have their advantages, it’s important as a leader to strike a balance between what currently works for your business and what big steps can be taken to propel you even further.

In our competitive society, it’s easy to get swept up in the idea that the bigger-and-better option is what your company needs in order to grow and position yourself ahead of your opponents. However, these decisions are too often driven by external factors that fade with time. You can become so focused on making a monumental move that you miss the big picture and wind up missing your target altogether, making your quest a never-ending cycle.

So, as a leader, how do you determine what move to make for your project, role or company? The first step is to make sure that your decision is coming from a place of contentment. Take a moment to see all the ways in which your business is already succeeding and what makes it work. Know the strengths of your team, your unique competitive edge and what makes your company work together as one. Making decisions from a place of contentment allows you to determine what the true needs of your team and organization are, and you’ll be able to better align your efforts with the mission and core values that your company already has set in place.

Once you have a firm grasp on your company’s strengths and you’ve reviewed your market research, you can determine a course of action that will not only play up the strengths of your team, but will land your business on the path of positive growth internally and externally. Sometimes this will allow you to go with the bigger-and-better option, and sometimes you may conclude that a simple course of action is all you need. All-in-all, arriving at a decision from contentment ensures that your company will thrive in the pursuit of being the best.

I'm just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I've found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Philippians 4:12 MSG
